Reasons for Our Promise and

Why #PromisesMatter

  • Australia euthanises 190,000 animals every year. Since 1959, AWLQ has worked with Councils and the community to rehome 130,000 stray and homeless animals.

  • In 2016, AWLQ Animal Rehoming Centres achieved the long held goal of Getting to Zero euthanasia of all healthy, sociable and treatable animals.

  • In 2017/2018, our Shelter Vet Clinic provided 30,775 medical treatments, desexed 3,962 cats and dogs and microchipped 3,881 cats and dogs.

  • Our Community Vet Clinics keep animals and their families together by providing support for urgent and emergency treatments to those who would otherwise not be able to afford it.
  • In 2017/18 AWLQ Animal Rehoming Centres rehomed 6,373 animals, including 430 in their senior years.

  • Now in its 14th year, the National Desexing Network (NDN) works to prevent unwanted litters by assisting with the desexing of more than 20,000 animals every year.

  • Started in 2013, Project Empty Shelter continues to be an outstanding and unique campaign in the rehoming of animals prior to Christmas – over 1,300 animals have been rehomed in just 12 days collectively.

  • Programmes like SHARE Reading Dogs, Pups in Prison, Golden Hearts Senior’ Pet Support Programme, CARE Programme Humane Education and School Holiday Programmes continue to exceed industry milestones and benchmarks in terms of education, reach, awareness and advocacy.
